Forts & Shelters Camp (age 5-8) is a week filled with exploring how to use natural materials to build tiny houses that a snail could fit inside or big structures that could fit the whole group. We might take a look at how the bird builds its nest and how the chipmunk burrows in the ground and use those ideas to play games, using our hands and bodies to build and make our own fun. Sign your wilderness architect up today!
Advanced Survival Camp (age 9-15): Building on concepts introduced in Forts & Shelters, older campers will learn safe ways to use knives and other tools to help them create a home in the forest. They will use natural materials like sticks and leaves, and historical building techniques to create debris huts they can use to sleep in during the overnight campout on Thursday of this exciting week of camp. Other advanced survival techniques will also be used throughout the week, which may include tarp setup, friction fire, foraging wild edibles, knots and lashings, other tool making/use, water purification and more!
The Advanced Survival overnight experience on Thursday is when campers get a chance put their learned skills to good use by sleeping in a survival shelter they built, gathering wild food as a part of dinner cooked over a friction-made camp fire, or eating out of a wooden bowl they made. Campers are picked up Friday morning at 10am after the overnight.
*PLEASE NOTE – In the unlikely event that we cannot host an overnight (i.e. due to severe weather), this camp will instead follow the typical schedule of M-F 9am-3pm.
