Make your own puppets from found natural objects, then put them to stories & song in these immersive creative learning workshops with Adelka Polak, professional puppeteer.

Frogs Make Me Hoppy! (3 – 12)

We’ll learn about the life cycle of frogs to inspire the creation of frog and fly puppets, then we’ll bring your puppets to life with songs and stories from around the world.

We will meet for three weeks on Monday morning at 10am, beginning June 1st. Adults may need to help for a brief portion of puppet construction during session 2.

Suggested materials:
– Paper plate
– TP tube
– Construction paper
– Party horn blow out
– Scissors
– Coloring supplies
– Tape, glue, or stapler

“Curious Creatures” Puppetry (3-12)

Our puppets will depict various backyard creatures, including frogs, butterflies, caterpillars, bees and so much more! After making your own puppet participants will learn movement techniques that bring our creations to life, singing and dancing along the way.

This course is a three-week series that meets Wednesdays at both 10am and 2pm, beginning June 3rd.

– Card stock (cereal boxes)
– Pipe-cleaners
– Felt
– Pinecones, twigs and sticks
– Coloring supplies
– Scissors

“The Rabbit and the Moon” Storytelling & Puppet-making (8+)

Go on a scavenger hunt to find elements of nature to create your own unique puppet creations to help us tell the ancient story of The Rabbit and the Moon. Our puppets will depict various woodland and field creatures both realistic or even mythical! Try out movement and storytelling techniques, puppetry tips, and character development as we bring our puppets to life.

This course is a three-week series beginning Friday June 5th, with live calls at 10 & 2 to share with your community of puppeteers.

About Your Mentor

Adelka is an interdisciplinary performing artist who founded Sova Dance & Puppet Theater in CT in 2013. She has performed in Denmark, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria and Taiwan with Masque Theatre since 2008. She performed at LaMaMa with the Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre, Ibex Puppetry, and Michael Pestel. She toured internationally with Squonk Opera who went “from junkyards to Broadway.” Sova Theater also provides puppet & dance theater programs to early learning centers, museums, public schools, and home-schooled youth in CT & NY. Sova Theater advocates responsibility to humanity and the environment through arts and education.
