Sign up now for a special series of winter workshops for the month of December!
Connecting with the Art of Nature
Make your own artist’s tool box from natural materials. As we at Two Coyotes well know Nature can provide everything we need once we know where to look. In this short series students will transform natural materials into art supplies such as drawing charcoal, paint brushes and pens, and inks and dyes while learning about the natural history of the components. We’ll also play some fun games, sing songs and do some silly stuff too.
Carving with Fire
In this 3-week workshop, we will focus on building up our skills to make coal-burned bowls. We will begin by learning how to make a fire from the land. Where do you find dry wood? How do you make a tinder bundle? We will answer these questions and more. The days will fly by as we alternate between burning our bowls and playing fun fire-themed games. Everyone will leave this series of classes with the knowledge to: make a fire from the land, manage a fire to get the large coals needed for coal-burning, and successfully coal-burn a wooden bowl.
Ceramics and Fire-Making
In this four week workshop we will focus on primitive clay work and firing. We will begin by creating bowls, mugs, cups, pendants, spoons, and beads. Over the course of the workshop we will work on fire building skills and bringing our awareness to how fire moves. We will learn how to help give the fire what it needs to help us with what we need to create ceramics. Learning how to harvest the tinder needed and how to properly build a fire will all be worked on in this class. Simultaneously we will be preparing our clay pieces for our firing through certain techniques to strengthen the clay. We will learn how to fire our creations into ceramic in an open fire pit. Practice patience and creativity and work on fine motor skills to tap into the mystery and power of earth and fire.
